Welcome
A news story today that he'd come across........
A story in the news today is that three million dollars worth of bongs were confiscated at a California port. Since it's illegal to import drug paraphenalia, the Chinese shipper had labeled the glass bongs as Christmas ornaments. Sooo, it's illegal to import bongs, which means that all bongs in America have to be made right here in America. WTF? Can we assume that the Bong lobby got this passed to protect the American bong industry? If we can outlaw foreign made bongs, why in the world aren't we preserving American jobs by outlawing other foreign made products?
How true is the concept of this really. He really does have a valid point here. As someone who works in the field of manufacturing, I have witness countless jobs in my own city dry up and hundreds over the years end up going out the proverbial door because the place they worked for has decided that Mexico or China are better places to set up shop. I know so many workers personally who have had to leave here to find work in other more southerly located areas of our country. I have lost friendships because someone is moving away to find work. This city alone has seen the loss of hundreds of people all in the name of finding work. It's sad really. But true. As a member of the United Steelworkers Union, I am told to buy American made products to help preserve jobs here. It's awful hard to do that, when I need something and I look it over to find the "made in" label reads China, Japan, Taiwan, or some other foreign country. Most of the products are not made here at all. Some are made elsewhere, and packaged here. It's hard for me to find what I need, and make sure it's made in the USA so I can do my part to save jobs. Which leads me to telling all ofyou that I saw a bumper sticker that hit the nail on the head perfectly.
It read, "Hungry, out of work? Eat your import!" Rather hard to swallow, and could have several meanings, but the point was made.
Back in puggyland...........
I slept off an on all day today. Makes me wonder if I will have trouble sleeping tonight. I hope not. I know I needed the rest after one hell of a work week last week. The eye, my bosses, etc..I just hope I can sleep the night as tomorrow is a work day. If anyone wants to know, I am a textile machinist. I take fiberglass yarn and weave cloth from it for the marine industry. Our company is small, and is trying to branch out into other industries that can take our product and make something from it. Oil pipeline for example, manhole covers, because most things today are made of fiberglass, and our cloth is useful, virtually flat, and works very well in the molding process. If the place can branch out, and not put 40% of it's eggs in one basket, we will be better off come the next "bubble burst". I can't tell you what's on my machne now, it's a secret. It will help save lives though. And, the best part, it's made in the USA. ;)

That kitchen looks like a kitchen again. The bath is nice and shiny and clean. I even got an hour nap in. I love Sundays.
I had a crafting idea. Folks like houseplants. I like them too. The only thing is, sometimes, the potted plants make a mess on the table tops they are sitting on. I made a coaster for potted plants to sit on. A "plant coaster" if you will. Not only is it stylish, but will save your table top from small scratches in the finish from the pot the plant is in. Or the dish under the pot that the plant is in. Something that won't scratch table surfaces. I have a pic, I will post up in my etsy store.
I was thinking too of making covers for wood stools so that they are more comfy to sit on. I don't know, just an idea.
The wind is howling out there. Looks like windy season is here early this year. It's much more like January out there tonight. It's going down into the single digits here, below zero in some northern places. Stay warm folks.
I met a lady who bought a house in the heart of this city sight unseen. {what???} That's right, sight unseen. Needless to say, the place is condemnable. She called J to give her an estimate to get repair work started on it. What would posess a person to buy property sight unseen? {I have a great deal on some swampland in Florida....} The amount of money she will have to put into it just to get it livable will be equal to the amount she'd spend demolishing it, and building a new one. I wish her luck with that. I just hope while J is working there, he doesn't fall through the roof or the floors anywhere along the way.
